Welcome to Year 2
Year 2 Parent Expectation Letter 2025 – 2026
All of our children have returned to school with big smiling faces, safe and well and ready to learn.
We are always happy to help if you have any queries. Alternatively, you can contact us at year2@harrowlodgeprimary.com
This year, the children will start off by studying basic geographical skills through the Let’s Explore the World topic, followed by our ‘Significant Explorers’ topic where they will learn about many different exporers and what they discovered. In the spring, the children will explore beaches and coastlines in the geography-rich Coastline topic. Finally, in the summer term the children will learn all about our most famous Kings and Queens through our Magnificent Monarchs topic (let’s hope they keep their head!)
It is certainly going to be a busy year!

Our topics for the autumn term are Significant Explorers and Let’s Explore the World
Significant Explorers
This project teaches children about historically significant explorers who have had a major impact on the world. They will learn to use timelines, stories and historical sources to find out about the people featured and use historical models to explore their significance.
Let’s Explore the World
This essential skills and knowledge project teaches children about atlases, maps and cardinal compass points. They learn about the characteristics of the four countries of the United Kingdom and find out why there are hot, temperate and cold places around the world. They also compare England to Somalia. Children carry out fieldwork, collecting primary data in their locality to answer geographical questions.
